Eatin' Bunny

From the country...

I just spent a bit of time reading a New York Times article about killing rabbits for food. A very interesting article which includes some commentary from the fantastic Novella Carpenter. This particular article spawns an all out war on her blog by people who commend raising rabbit for food and extremists who believe we are eating our pets. A super interesting read and some great points being brought up. Check out the article Don't Tell the Kids (just click the image on the right side...) and the uproar on http://novellacarpenter.com/. Interesting stuff, oh and Amy this one is for you.... If this doesn't sway your opinion an raising back yard rabbits, I don't know what will. Of course I am for it(did you even need to ask?).
here bunny, bunny, bunny..... OR kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit....(they just keep comin')

  1. Interesting article. I don't know if I can eat rabbit but I respect that it is an ethical and environmental source of meat. After reading the comments on that blog post I find it funny that people seem to think that it's unnatural (and inhumane) to eat animals, such as rabbit, yet it is completely okay to have domesticated these wild animals.

  3. Thanks! But I'm actually not vegan anymore; I'm not even a vegetarian now. At my last physical my doctor found I had almost no iron in my blood so she started me on iron pills but they didn't do anything so now she suspects that I might have celiac disease. I have to go to a specialist to get tested but my appointment is not until June 8th so in the meantime I have been eating meat about once a week since the iron in meat is more readily absorbed than the iron in plants.

I'm actually really enjoying my new diet because it is more in line with my beliefs. I adopted a vegan diet because of ethical and environmental values. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't supporting factory farming but being vegan isn't the only answer and I have since found that some dietary choices in a vegan diet are much more detrimental to agriculture, such as soy monocultures. I am grateful for the experience I had while being vegan and I think it taught me to think a lot more about food and understand hwo important it is to think about where our food comes from. I am now trying to support local farming and I buy my meat from the Healthy Butcher and I am looking into different options for veggies.

I found this poster and it has become my food motto: http://mizzlarabee.tumblr.com/post/408689347/i-need-a-print-of-this
