At my last physical my doctor found I had almost no iron in my blood so she started me on iron pills but they didn't do anything so now she suspects that I might have celiac disease. I have to go to a specialist to get tested but my appointment is not until June 8th so in the meantime I have been eating meat about once a week since the iron in meat is more readily absorbed than the iron in plants.

I'm actually really enjoying my new diet because it is more in line with my beliefs. I adopted a vegan diet because of ethical and environmental values. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't supporting factory farming but being vegan isn't the only answer and I have since found that some dietary choices in a vegan diet are much more detrimental to agriculture, such as soy monocultures. I am grateful for the experience I had while being vegan and I think it taught me to think a lot more about food and understand hwo important it is to think about where our food comes from. I am now trying to support local farming and I buy my meat from the Healthy Butcher and I am looking into different options for veggies.

I found this poster and it has become my food motto: http://mizzlarabee.tumblr.com/post/408689347/i-need-a-print-of-this

xoLarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15528609401171660827noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5439561159497403293.post-55577236882821657732010-03-05T16:45:51.648-05:002010-03-05T16:45:51.648-05:00Lara,

After reading the comments on that blog post I find it funny that people seem to think that it's unnatural (and inhumane) to eat animals, such as rabbit, yet it is completely okay to have domesticated these wild animals.Larahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15528609401171660827noreply@blogger.com
