Homemade Laundry Detergent

From the City..
So I had a visit from this hot mama on Saturday and we got to talking about laundry detergent; you know, as good women tend to do, and she told me that she's been making her own.  I was intrigued so I gave it a whirl.  I used this recipe.  I included the first pic because I was so proud of myself that I had everything on hand and I was whipping along and it was cooking up good on the stove and then I realized that you actually need washing soda, not baking soda; what the hell is washing soda?  and where does one even get washing soda on a sunday, in the annex at 9 am?
(note; we live in the university area of the city where nothing opens until 12!!)

So there's some pics from laundry soap making of 2013, all in all, we're happy with it.  Theo peed on our comforter this morning so we got to try the new homemade stuff out and we were both pleasantly surprised.  I'll be honest though, I'm not a detergent connoisseur, I just buy the cheapest natural stuff I can find but I like this and its got a light smell of our favourite soap (second fav. cause Laura doesn't make soap anymore).  At first the detergent didn't thicken and I thought for sure I'd buggered it but after a day of letting it set, it looks pretty good.  Just like the real stuff.  It also made a ton, about 8L's with lots of the ingredients left over so I could probably make two more batches.  All in all, pretty happy.  Next time I might throw in an essential oil, I can get crazy like that every once in a while.

The last pic is of our ridiculously delicious, braised leg of lamb aka, Sunday Nights Supper.  Heaven.
