Our Sleeping Adventure

From the City...
As I was flipping through my blog roll one day, I came across this post from one of my favourite blogs.  I called Simon over and we both agreed that this was something we had to do.  We were both on board that we wanted Theo out of our bed, where he's been nesting for the past 11 months, but the transition to the crib was just not practical for us.  So promptly the next morning, we took our crib down.

Space wise, it was genius.  We have a one bedroom so this little mattress on the floor takes up next to no space and this way I can still cuddle and nurse Theo to sleep and then sneak out when the time is right.  I also don't worry about him taking a header out of our big bed and finally, we can read in our bed again (by flashlight but still, whose complaining??).  As a bonus for us, when nap is over, we find him happily cooing to his mobile or playing with his books and toys on the floor.

Here's some further reading and information on floor bedding and some great pics from other parents who floor bed.

Happy Sleeping!

  2. Yay, Amelia! So glad that this is working out for you guys and for Theo. The space is both beautiful and inspiring--I love the mobile. I also truly love the aspect that I can still snuggle, nurse and cuddle as often as needed--something that just couldn't be done with the crib. My husband and I got a chuckle out of the "reading in bed again" part--something we also celebrated with the introduction of our floor bed. It's an unappreciated luxury, isn't it? Happy Sleeping, Joni :)

    1. Well thanks for the idea Joni! I am so so happy that you blogged about it.

I can't take credit for the mobile, that was all my ultra talented sister in law.

  4. Hi Amelia! What a great idea! Where did you get the mattress and what size is it?

    1. Hi there,

The mattress is just a standard crib one that you can get from Toys r us. Nothing fancy at all. To make it cozier for the little guy though, I took some of our extra sets of flannel sheets and put them underneath the fitted crib sheet. No need for such a hard mattress, i'd say.
